Intelligent Reflecting Surfaces for Underwater Visible Light Communications

Intelligent reflecting surfaces (IRSs) offer paradigm shift towards enhancing the capabilities of wireless communications. The use this emerging technology in realm underwater systems is a promising solution to overcome limitations pertinent such challenging environments. In paper, we quantify performance enhancement offered by integration IRS context optical communication (OWC). Specifically, derive closed-form expression for outage probability over log-normal channels, taking into consideration attenuation, pointing error, and turbulence effects. turbulent medium characterized recently introduced Oceanic Turbulence Optical Power Spectrum (OTOPS) model that uses practical values average temperature salinity concentration earth basins. presented numerical results take account effects as well system parameters (i.e., range, receiver aperture diameter, number IRS). Our show IRSs can significant reliability OWC under beam displacement, Moreover, combined effect using large larger diameter yields more noticeable improvement.
